188th Bergedorf Round Table
Shaping the Future Together: Germany, Europe and India in a Changing Global Order
26 June 2025 in Berlin
As geopolitical tensions rise and economies adapt to new realities, the challenges posed by structural changes in the increasingly multipolar international system coexist with a unique opportunity for India, Europe, and Germany to redefine global cooperation and contribute to a more stable, equitable, and sustainable future. The 25th anniversary of the Indo-German strategic partnership comes at a pivotal moment, as drastic shifts in global politics and a new US administration reshape the international system. Berlin, Brussels and New Delhi share key interests, including free and fair trade, equality and stability in the international order, and navigating the challenges posed by intensified US-China competition. While an FTA has proven difficult to finalize, cooperation on security and defence, technology and connectivity continues to deepen, offering Germany and Europe an opportunity to be a key partner in India’s growth while strengthening their own economic resilience.
The 188th Bergedorf Round Table will explore how India, Europe and Germany can leverage their shared interests and strengthen their partnerships to shape a more stable and forward-looking international system. How can they contribute to an international system that balances power shifts while addressing historical inequalities? What are the main obstacles to finalizing an FTA, and what alternative mechanisms or partnerships could enhance economic ties? How can security and defence cooperation be strengthened? How can India, Germany and Europe lead the transition to a resource-efficient, climate-neutral global economy while ensuring sustainable growth? How can partnerships in digital innovation, emerging technologies, and infrastructure connectivity be deepened to support economic resilience and strategic autonomy?
The participants of the 188th Bergedorf Round Table will be approximately 30 high-ranking politicians, government officials, and representatives of think tanks, academia and media from India, Germany, Europe, and international organizations.
