185th Bergedorf Round Table
Out of the Grey Zone: Ensuring Stability and Security in the Eastern Partnership Area
21-22 June 2024 in Chișinău
Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has not only shattered the European security order of the post-Cold War era. It also poses a fundamental – if not existential – security threat to the countries in the EU’s Eastern neighbourhood. Caught in a geopolitical “grey zone”, they are confronted with continued Russian interference and aggression. While the “Europeanisation” of the Eastern Partnership countries has been facing multiple obstacles and the reformist enthusiasm has slackened in some of them, it is in the EU’s strategic interest to support them on their European path and to strengthen their resilience. Against this backdrop, granting EU candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia was a forward-looking decision of great significance and consequence.
The 185th Bergedorf Round Table explored the security and economic needs of the countries in the EU’s Eastern neighbourhood.
The participants of the 185th Bergedorf Round Table were approximately 35 high-ranking politicians, government officials, and representatives of think tanks, academia, and media.
