184th Bergedorf Round Table
Rethinking Global Cooperation in a Non-Western World
18 – 19 March 2024 in Berlin
Power in the international system is shifting – politically and economically, rapidly and extensively. In a world of multipolarity, emerging powers are pursuing independent foreign policies, and avoid being drawn into increasing great power conflicts. Recently, tensions have surfaced over diverging positions on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the war between Hamas and Israel. Cognizant of the pressing global challenges ahead, Germany and the European Union refocus on global partnerships. But colonialism has left its marks, and inequalities – in the global economy, political representation in institutions or the burden of climate change – are still ubiquitous. Given the common goal to find sustainable and fair solutions for economic growth, conflict resolution, energy supplies, and the reform of the international system, the search for new forms of global cooperation is more urgent than ever.
The 184th Bergedorf Round Table explored the future of global partnerships.
The participants of the 184th Bergedorf Round Table were approximately 30 high-ranking politicians, government officials, and representatives of think tanks, academia and media from Germany, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and international organizations.
