The physician Arthur Samuel (1885-1972) was a gifted cellist who belonged to Elisabeth Macke’s weekly musical circle. He was a highly esteemed doctor and head of the synagogue community in Bonn from 1929 to 1939. In February 1939, Arthur Samuel managed to flee to the USA with his wife Hilde and their children Erica and Gerhard. With works by Gerhard Samuel and Beethoven, the discussion concert provides an insight into the life of the Samuel family. The Yaron Quartet will perform. Dramaturge Tilmann Böttcher and art historian Birgit Kulmer will host the evening.
