The Bonn composer, piano virtuoso and writer Johanna Kinkel (1810-1858) had to flee into exile in London due to her involvement in the events of the democratic revolution of 1848/49. In letters and especially in her novel “Hans Ibeles in London”, she vividly described the arduous everyday life and the disputes among the exiles. After a brief overview by Hermann Rösch, he will discuss the situation in exile in London using some of her texts as examples.
