The Jeckes in Israel
Many German and Austrian intellectuals fled to Palestine to escape the Nazi terror. They are the “Jeckes”. Among them was the historian Walter Grab, founder of the Institute for German History at Tel Aviv University. His extensive archive served his granddaughter, the journalist Shelly Kupferberg, as a source for the story “Isidor – A German Life”. Together with Esther Gardei from the Bonn Centre for Reconciliation Research, she presents the life, tradition and creativity of the Jeckes.
