The twin sisters Ilse and Helga Aichinger were separated at the age of 17 in the summer of 1939. While Helga was able to flee from Vienna into exile in England, Ilse, who later became a writer, and her Jewish mother were denied this escape route. Sonja Szylowicki combines the sisters’ moving correspondence, diary entries and excerpts from Ilse’s first novel “The Greater Hope” to create a touching collage, musically interpreted and accompanied by Bernd Butz on the accordion.
