Experiences in Exile of German-language authors after 1933
Arnold E. Maurer ‘s seminar deals with a situation that is in some ways timeless, that of exile. Texts by exiled writers from the National Socialist era reveal the “problems” of exile: Visa issues, lack of money to survive, the necessity of having to write in new surroundings, having left the territory of one’s mother tongue and being dependent on German-language publishers abroad. Texts by Joseph Roth, Irmgard Keun, Klaus Mann and others are covered.
